Here is the sutures information for mice and rats recommended by the coordinating center. Augusta site followed the recommended sutures according to the weight of the animals (Mice and rats).

For Mice: (Doccol filaments)

  1. 6-0 fine MCAO suture L12 Re PK10 [Catalog No.: 602112PK10Re]

Silicone rubber-coated monofilament for MCAO model. Filament size 6-0, diameter 0.09-0.11 mm, length 20mm; diameter with coating 0.21 +/- 0.02 mm; coating length 1-2 mm, more suitable for skilled surgeons doing longer (>60 min) MCAO followed by reperfusion. Reusable. Pack of 10 filaments.

 

2. 6-0 medium A MCAO suture L12 Re PK10 [Catalog No.: 602212PK10Re]

From the Augusta site. We have used the following sutures according to the animal's (mice and rats) body weight recommended by the coordinating center in SPAN 1.0. For SPAN 2.0, we are also using these sutures again.

Do you still remember how the filament sizes were decided in SPAN1? Here is what I found from DOCCOL. We used 0.37 for 90 min MCAO in the rats, which body weight were 250-280 grams.

I have explained both mice' and rats' sutures in the forum. Please check carefully. However, here I have writing again for you as recommended by CC.

They are 0.02 mm less than what Doccol recommends.

We were used the same as I mentioned above and recommended by CC. We also found a consistent result in our stroke surgery.
