ucsdThe UCSD Emergency Medicine and Neuroscience Research Lab, led by Dr. Bingren Hu, has a wealth of research experience spanning more than 25 years. Over the course of more than two decades, our lab has specialized in utilizing animal models of ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic shock, and traumatic brain injury to investigate intracellular membrane trafficking, protein misfolding and aggregation, tissue reperfusion injury, and the effects and benefits of therapeutic hypothermia. Our research employs a variety of animal models, including rodent and rabbit MCAO stroke, rodent global brain ischemia, and rat and swine hemorrhagic shock. We employ state-of-the-art microscopy techniques, tissue staining, and MRI imaging to enhance our understanding of the effects of cerebroprotective interventions on rodent stroke brain injury. Our research team comprises professionals specializing in animal surgery, behavioral monitoring and analysis, and MRI imaging in experimental, preclinical, and clinical research.
